It all adds up to the bottom line of Starbucks.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">That\u2019s customer retention.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">And that\u2019s what every business wants, a continuous cycle of paying customers, not just first-timers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The truth is if you want to see your monthly recurring revenue (MRR) and annual recurring revenue (ARR), you can\u2019t settle for just the first customer purchase alone.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In this article, we\u2019ll define customer retention, how customer retention is calculated, what\u2019s a good customer retention rate per industry, and how to use CRO to increase customer retention.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><b>What is Customer Retention, and how to Calculate it?<\/b><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Customer retention refers to a company\u2019s ability to turn first-time customers into repeat purchasers. An example is subscription brands. Find out how many customers you have at the end of a given period (week, month, or quarter). <\/span><\/p>\n<p>2. Subtract the number of new customers you\u2019ve acquired over that time.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">3. Divide by the number of customers you had at the beginning of that period.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">4. Quantitative usability testing is best for collecting benchmarks.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remote moderated usability testing <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; the facilitator and participant are in different physical locations. The facilitator still interacts with the participant and asks her to perform tasks.\u00a0 Usually, moderated tests can be performed using screen-sharing software like Skype or GoToMeeting.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><b>Remote unmoderated usability testing <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; remote usability tests do not have the same facilitator\u2013participant interaction as in-person or moderated tests.
